Three days walking through glorious countryside, woodland paths and mountain tracks – 90 kilometres to reach Cape Finisterre – the end or edge of the world as early pilgrims thought it to be.

Todays journey was not intended ! First I left Arzua much later than anticipated at around 8.00 am and the paths were very busy with pilgims. Met up with Marrion who had been walking with friends from Germany and I walked with them until reaching O Pedrouzo. I had intended to stay also in Pedrouzo but ran out of cash and the cash dispenser went through the whole procedure of giving out cash but did

Another good days walking through the Galicia countryside with around 23 kilometres walked. Left Casanover just after 7.00 am arriving in Melide around 2 hours later. Visited the church of Santa María de Melide, a national monument  – its Romanesque altar (one of the few Romanesque altars left in Galicia) and an image of Our Lady of the Snows, the parish’s patron saint. From Melide the journey moves through Boente, Ribadiso before reaching Arzua and

A much better day with rolling hills, dirt tracks and country lanes. Left Gonzar around 7.00 am passing through the small hamlets of Castromajor and Hospital Alta da Cruz before reaching Ventas de Naron with its small chapel “Capilla Maria Magdalena” – where a pilgrim’s hospital was once located. On through Ligonde and Chacotes before reaching the small town of Palas de Rei with the Iglesia de San Tirso. Purchased a poncho in a local

Constant rain for 7 hours and cold as I walked from Sarria to Gonzar a distance of about 25 kilometres. The walk like yesterday was a long country lanes and woodland paths – even more like England than yesterday with the rain ! Passed through numerous tiny hamlets and the town of Portomarin where I visited the church before reaching Gonzar in a rather wet state . Gonzar was a tiny hamlet with an albergue

It was a beautiful morning as I left Villafranca – I was back in the mountains and the day started with a gentle climb as the path followed a quiet road cut into the mountain side – it followed the river in the valley below The first stop was Trabedillo a small mountain village where I stopped for breakfast and met an old camino friend and we walked together for the rest of the day
